Here are posts I had made throughout the day via tumblr since WP was acting up (apparently not a DDoS?).. i like to have everything in one place though.
US AGREES TO IMPROVE HUMAN RIGHTS RECORD IN FIRST UN ASSESSMENT, BUT DEATH PENALTY REMAINS – THE WASHINGTON POST →
As part a groundbreaking commitment to improvement under the Obama administration, the U.S. joined the 47-nation Human Rights Council in 2009. And in doing so, submitted to more international scrutiny.
we should save words like “groundbreaking” and “commitment” until all of our own political prisoners are released… to assume or project this as evidence of US accountability is laughable when, for example, Bradley Manning is still being subjected to cruel and unusual punishment for what has proven to be (in my opinion) something overwhelmingly beneficial for the global community (read: the people) in the face of government’s refusing to be accountable. Yet the “kill team” from Afghanistan will probably get what? A slap on the wrist? Who are the real criminals, here?
Title IX was adopted in 1972 :
“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance”
…yet schools are literally FORCED to comply almost fourty years later. But we have gender equality, right? and the ACLU is a no good progressive bla bla bla…
what would public (or media) reaction be if he was not a “normal” person…. food for thought.
I don’t understand why Pentagrams are included, and I’m deeply offended that the symbol was used in a hate crime. I’m more offended that shit like this still happens. (wordpress is acting up for me today, btw)
