Iowa is becoming a christianconservative politically extreme haven and this is part of the vibe:

State Senator Kent Sorenson of Indianola, Iowa, a leader among the newly elected conservative officials, sponsored legislation seeking to require presidential candidates to produce a birth certificate. He said Iowa Republicans looked for a candidate with solid conservative credentials and were not interested in a truce on social issues, as Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana, another possible Republican presidential candidate, has suggested.

not interested in a truce.. as in, don’t know how to compromise on issues in a very diverse environment?  Will bully to force religious beliefs onto other people? this is what newt gingrich had to say:

“I’m here to tell you that if you don’t start with values, if you don’t start by saying who we are as Americans, the rest of it doesn’t matter.”

they absolutely want to stop abortion.. want to fight about LGBTQI rights.. and think it’s of the utmost value.. more important than feeding all of our hungry people and getting people to work and just, basically not ruining the future.  Their blatant lack of anything close to resembling respect for opposing points of views (hence the we will not compromise attitude) and privilege (being in a socioeconomic place where survival isn’t #1 issue)is a baaaddd combination when you look at the state of affairs in the rest of the country.

Some good news out of Maryland:

Maryland House Bill 235, the Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act, is moving to the Senate.  This afternoon, the House of Delegates voted 86-52 to pass HB 235.  The bill provides job, housing and credit protections for transgender Marylanders

Check out earth hour, if you haven’t already (i’ve also added a video below).
