YouTube – Stand Up! – Don’t Stand for Homophobic Bullying. damn, i haven’t cried like that in a while. Imagine if people did react that way, how powerful it would be, how much it would mean to the person being bullied/silenced/oppressed… it really made me think of my experience working in the DV community, too… in our work we’re trying to shift the paradigm around who is responsible for keeping women safe. so often all the responsibility is put on the victim-survivor, or on the batterer, but NEVER on the community at large. I think this framework needs to be adopted to face homophobia and other forms of oppression as well. It shouldn’t just be up to those people who are being victimized. It should be the responsibility of every person to take care of each other. We all have a stake in it.
