BP

If there’s one thing our severely polarized country can agree on, it’s that BP needs to be held accountable for the spill and the havoc it wreaked needs to be made right.

The bipartisan polling, conducted by Democratic polling firm Lake Research Partners and GOP polling firm Bellwether Research and Consulting, showed that 83 percent of voters support efforts to dedicate the BP oil spill penalties toward restoration of the Mississippi River Delta and Gulf Coast, and 69 percent strongly support it.

And once again our government doesn’t give two fucks what the people think, because they’re still giving contracts to BP:

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) officials held talks about possibly debarring or limiting BP from receiving additional government contracts several months after the deadly April 20, 2010, explosion aboard the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig…But two senior EPA officials, who spoke to Truthout on condition of anonymity, said those discussions “went nowhere” largely because the federal government relies too heavily on BP to meet its needs and “arguments were raised” by “various agency officials” about the “possibility of debarment being a threat to national security.

funny how if you slap the words “national security” on something, the government can get away with anything.  No-bid contracts are okay when it’s for national security.  Torture is okay when it is in the interest of national security.  Inhumane treatment of Manning is ok in the name of national security.  Spending wayyyyyyyy too much money on wars and helping to bankrupt our country is ok because it was for our national security.. what a bunch of bullshit.
